Origins of the Name

The origins of Bob Denny’s White Dragon Kung Fu in Cornwall came from the St Austell area. On choosing a name, family and student discussion resulted in ‘White’ as in china clay, predominant in the region’s industry, and ‘Dragon’ as everyone agreed this was quite apt for a Chinese style. Bob was also born in the year of the Dragon in the Chinese horoscope. With careful consideration, and confirmation from the Hong Kong Chinese connections Bob had with students, White Dragon translated as Bac Loong. Bob added ‘Gar’ afterwards, meaning family, as this was how the club felt themselves to be.

When affiliating to BACA, the translation was checked again and proved to be correct, hence the name of the style, Bac Loong Gar or known locally as White Dragon Kung Fu.
