Tae Kwon Do

We are fortunate to have on board a well respected and highly qualified Tae Kwon Do instructor with over 20 years experience with WTF and ITF Tae Kwon Do Federations. We have great pleasure in introducing Mr Alan Hughes who has recently received his 5th dan instructor's licence with Bac Loong Gar Martial Arts through the BNMAA. Alan, who also trains in Wing Chun and Tai Chi Chuan is happy to take on the role of Chief Instructor for the Korean Martial Arts within our schools. He is an ex-Marine and retired police officer and is currently a Police Self Defence Trainer, a Conflict Management Trainer and is a fully fledged St John Ambulance instructor.

Alan's classes are structured in a specific syllabus format, on a traditional basis only, as are all our classes. This means that no competition fighting is necessary, nor such conditions as refereeing in order to gain grades. Instruction does include sparring, but in the main, Alan concentrates on traditional techniques, and our usual grading system applies which is recognised by the BNMAA. Classes are run twice weekly, for further details, please visit the Class Times/Venues page.

May 2009 Update

We are happy to announce we have our very own first black belt Tae Kwon Do student. Congratulations to Lea Crumpton! Lea performed very well and to a consistently high standard. She demonstrated excellent skills in traditional techniques, striking for focus and power, and her sparring and take downs were impressive, more so as she is still a cadet.

Lea thoroughly deserves her award and is continuing with her training. Very well done!
